Alfred Romann
Managing Director

Alfred has 25 years of experience as a journalist and economist. Alfred studied journalism at Centennial College in Canada and economics at Harvard University in the U.S. He has worked across the Americas, Africa and Asia. He is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Mandarin Chinese. Alfred has written extensively for international publications and multinational organizations on issues of economics, finance and development. He currently splits his time between Vancouver and Hong Kong.

David Ho
Director of Operations

David Ho is Bahati’s Director of Operations based in Hong Kong. Over more than 15 years as a writer and editor, he has covered a wide range of beats. His work has ranged from feature pieces to international publications to current event analysis, with a particular focus on arts and culture. Originally from Malaysia, David is fluent in English, Mandarin and Malay. David is also an accomplished yoga practitioner and teacher and makes music in his spare time.

Sergio Held
Director, Latin America

Sergio Held is a Colombian-German journalist with almost two decades of experience. He guides Bahati’s operations in Latin America and Europe. An accomplished radio journalist, his writing has appeared in world-class publications including BioWorld, BioWorld Medtech, Al Jazeera and China Daily. He has lived and worked in Asia, Latin America and Europe. Sergio is a qualified lawyer from Universidad de Los Andes (Bogota), from where he graduated with a minor in journalism. He also received a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Hong Kong. Sergio also produces radio and TV content from Bogota for national and international media outlets.

Gina Lee
Editor, Hong Kong

Gina joined the Bahati team in March 2020, bringing several years of experience in Asian financial markets to bear. She currently writes regularly for Investing.com with a daily focus on Asian markets and is a regular contributor to the ACCA’s magazine Accounting & Business, BioWorld and BioWorld Medtech, among others. Born in Seoul, she grew up in Hong Kong and began her career as a Trade Operations Specialist with Wells Fargo Bank. She has also reported on the South East Asian project finance scene at Inframation. A member of several book clubs, Gina is an avid reader of an eclectic selection of books. She speaks English, Korean and French.

Doris Yu
Editor, Hong Kong

Doris joined the Bahati team in 2021, after spending more than two years as a journalist focused on finance and technology. Based in Hong Kong, she is a regular contributor to BioWorld and BioWorld Medtech. Doris graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Master’s Degree in international journalism. Her broad language skills extend to English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

T.V. Padma
Contributor, India

Padma is a Delhi-based science journalist, who has written extensively on science and technology policies in India, South Asia and developing countries. Padma began her career at Press Trust of India (PTI) and later ran development communication projects at the South Asia office of the Panos Institute. In 2005, she joined SciDev.Net as its first South Asia Regional Coordinator and was part of an award-winning team in 2005 that won the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) prize for best science reporting on the web for coverage of the 2004 Asian tsunami. She is also a recipient of the FAO’s World Food Day prize for best reporting on health and nutrition issues in India. She has a post-graduate degree in science and a PG diploma in bioethics.

 

 

Khawar Khan

Khawar is a broadcast multimedia journalist and documentary producer based in Karachi. He has more than 12 years of experience covering the health care and pharmaceutical sectors, data sciences, social and environmental issues. He is the winner of the 2017 ICRC Humanitarian Reporting Award. With Bahati, he has contributed to Anticentric, BioWorld, BioWorld Medtech, the South China Morning Post and China Daily
